We again fished with Capt Pat Fasano aboard his 25 foot Parker “The Tiderunner” Howard Beach NY. We got to the dock at 7pm and headed right to the ocean. Last night the ocean was very calm the sky had a few puffs in it. The winds were blowing from the west only enough to slightly relieve the 88 degree tempature. It was much easier to find bunker in the calm ocean and after about 15 minutes of searching we spotted splashes and ripples in the water. Capt Pat positioned his boat to its portside and threw his 20 foot net right into the bubbling water. He then circled the Tiderunner around the net coralling the bunker and started pulling up the net full of 9 to 12 inch bunker.
He did it a second time and we now had about 120 fresh bunker[enough bait to chum and fish all night]
We fished on a spot close to where we netted the bunker. It was approaching high tide.Capt Pat navigated his vessel into position and set the anchor. The lines
went into the water the ocean temperature was 71 degrees and the depht was 41 ft.
Capt Pat is a friend and everytime we fish you can see the happiness on his face when his boat is in the ocean. His instincts take over I think he was born to be a fisherman.
There was now a nervous edge on the deck the anticipation of the first strike caused a calming quietness. Its 8:15pm and our anticipation just became reality we had 3 fish in the boat and then a calm[ it was now the slack tide and Capt Pat with a look of determination on his face decided that we move to his other favorite spot a 5 minute ride]. We again anchored started a chum slick the tide was starting to turn and Capt Pats instincts were Dead On!.
For the next hour and 40 minutes we boated 21 Big Stripers up to 30 pounds. Any doubts about the hunter[Capt Pat] are quickly forgotten. His abilities in the ocean[fishing] are amazing like a sixth sense! He is becoming a legend among his peers.
